Working on the Switch

I've started making the switch
from Ancestory.com to
FamilySearch.org

Family Search has made alot of changes and has become more user
friendly, and it's FREE!

They also have a new place to put your Family Tree.
Roots Magic 6

I've been putting all of my photos there, and any documents that I've scanned.
I've also copied my family tree of those that I'm directly descended from.

I now have to take my photos and documents from Ancestory and transfer
those to the Family Search Site.

I'm still working on indexing the family tree, I do have one family indexed, and
have many that I still need to do, my tree says that I have over
5000 people on it, which I doubt, I'm sure most of them are
duplicates.

Duplication is another problem to deal with, I'm finding some duplicate
family members don't have the same information attached
to them.

So by doing this switch, I'm basically shaking my Family Tree of it's
Dead Wood and Leaves.

I've given myself a time frame to have it done by, which
will be at the end of 2013.

That's when my subscription ends with Ancestory.com.

The First Harter Family Reunion
2013

Stan Harter, Susan (Murphy) Greving, Cathy (Harter) Powell, Gary Harter, Tina (Harter) Cruz
Debbie (Harter) Smith.

Gary Harter was the only Uncle who made it to the reunion, and we were very glad that he did, Gary is the
youngest child of John Dexter Harter and Eunice Mildred Bryant.

As of today only 4 of the male children survive.

John Dexter (Buddy) Harter Jr.
Gerald Donald Harter
Harold Harter
Gary Harter.

We had an amazing time getting to know each other, we shared photos, and talked about our
childhood, and shared alot of very funny stories.

I hope that we'll be able to get together in the future, maybe in another location, who knows.

But I know one thing, I sure won't let time slip through my fingers like sand, I want to know my family
and who they are, so I understand who I've become.

Harter Family Reunion 2013

As of today we have only 5 more days until the "Harter Family Reunion" 2013
This is a time to meet family for the first time or to reconnect with
family that we haven't seen for awhile.

I'm co-hosting the event with my cousin's Susan (Murphy) Greving.
We both are looking forward to everyone getting together and reconnecting.

Since this is our First Reunion together, we have decided that those who do attend
this, they will become the planning committee for the next one.
They don't know that yet, but you have to start somewhere.

We have planned a family style southern BBQ.

The rest of the day will be just go with the flow.

We do have activities for the kids.

Board games for the adults.

Photos to share and chat about, we'll also have a scanner there so that
copies can be made of the photos.

I plan on asking alot of questions about them, that way I get to know
who they are in the family tree and who they belong to.
Most of all I just want all us to enjoy the day with each other.

So I'll let you know what happened at our reunion.

Getting back to it!

It's time to get back to it!

Wedding Day
June 24.1957

Now that I've retired from working for the last 40 years, it's time
for me to get back to working on the family history.

I've been dabbling in it when I had time, and traveled to help my
family members locate graves of their tree branches. I love going
on these treasure hunts, I get excited when I find them, and feel
a bit closer to my family roots.

I know you here it all the time if you do any research on family trees, but
everyone has a story, and it needs to be told, can you imagine what they've
seen, done, how times have changed during their lifetime.

So starting in July, I'll be back in the research chair, and can't wait.
